Explore the magnificent Corcovado National Park from its closest lodge. Take advantage of an experienced local guide and learn about the interesting biodiversity of the tropical rainforest, without leaving aside the relaxing atmosphere of the closest eco lodge to the park.

Kayak and swim in the calm turquoise waters of the Golfo Dulce with dolphins and sea turtles or explore the Rio Esquinas Mangrove Estuary. Snorkel a coral reef 15 minutes away and fish where the locals come to fish.  In front of Saladero!
 Explore our private trails in the primary rainforest and keep on the lookout for the many exotic species of birds and animals.

Package itinerary

Day 1: We will meet you in either Golfito or Pto Jimenez and provide boat transportation to Saladero Lodge. It is a 30 – 40 minute ride and often we see dolphins and turtles. If early enough in the day we will have lunch and then take a 2 hour orientation tour of the property that includes the tropical plants and trees, medicinal plants, fruits and even learn how to open (and eat) a coconut.  Afternoon salsa and dinner.
Day 2: After a healthy breakfast and depending on the tide we will tow our kayaks up the Rio Esquinas for a guided tour of the mangrove estuary and river. Lunch. Afternoon to relax, kayak, fish or snorkel. Afternoon salsa and dinner.
Day 3: Free day. You can opt for hiking our private trails, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, optional tours or relaxing. 3 meals and afternoon salsa.
Day 4: We leave Saladero and travel by boat to Pto Jimenez. You will be met by a La Leona Eco Lodge representative for the transfer to the 1.30pm Collectivo to Carate.  This journey is approximately 2 hours and is an adventure for those wishing to get off the beaten path.  It’s a fun way to meet Costa Rican families or other travelers with stories to share. The arrival time to Carate will be approximately at 3:30pm. From there, enjoy a pleasant 2.5 km walk to the lodge. The views are stunning and not to be missed. Our personnel will receive you with a welcome drink and will help get you settled in your tent.  Later, enjoy your delicious dinner where you’ll meet your guide that will lead you into the amazing Corcovado National Park on the next day.
Day 5: Take breakfast early in the morning and get ready to start your hike into Corcovado National Park. This walk can lasts from 4 to 5 hours, that depends on you! There is no rush, besides, is nice to stop in interesting points to observe birds, plants, among others.  It would be better if you start the hike early in the morning, for you to be at lunchtime at the lodge (1 or 2 pm).
Day 6: Free day. Walk the beach, take another trip into Corcovado National Park, hike our trails or just read a book. Day 7: This is the day when you say good-bye to the lodge, and probably you’ll start planning your return! You’ll take again the little walk to Carate, where a taxi will be waiting for you to take you back to Puerto Jiménez.

Important Notes:

• Lodging – At Saladero you stay at the Beach House. At La Leona Eco Lodge you are in large tents set on wood platforms with full sized beds and full bathrooms.

• Transportation from Pto Jimenez to Carate is by “collectivo”. A cattle truck. You wanted an adventure right!!! If you are not that adventurous a taxi can be obtained for an additional $80. Your return from Carate to Pto Jimenez includes a taxi.

• The package begins at Saladero for better timing and coordination of transportation. If La Leona has to be the first destination, you will need to  spend one night extra night in Pto Jimenez at another hotel.

• Package does not include any international or regional flights. Arrival and departure from Pto Jimenez is recommended if flying.

• All packages require a 50% deposit and the balance must be paid 30 days prior to arrival.
